Development of phpEdu somewhat stalled in 2006 in spite of growing interest in the education management application. However, work never stopped and that's the reason for this announcement.
Keen followers of web development technology would have noticed a massive growth in the CMS market over the past 2 years or so, with Drupal, Joomla and Plone in the forefront. A tool for managing educational instituitions needs a solid CMS foundation which is why phpEdu has chosen to go with Drupal. phpEdu functionalities will be developed as modules for Drupal. The plan is to release the first version of phpEdu by June this year.
